HOME

HOME

What is home for you? How is home defined?

Is it a familiar space?

Is home where one can feel safe?

Where one can be oneself?

Where acceptance and love are unconditional?

Is home where one can rest?

To relax from the worries and burdens of one’s life?

Is it where one can feel care and warmth?

Is home a place? A space? A neighbourhood? An embrace? A yard? A group of people?

Is home an idea, an emotion or something material?

Our own self? Our body?

The body of another?

And what happens if it is lost?

If all of this is lost?

A work about the concept of home, familiar space, care, in contrast to the concept of displacement, loss, unfamiliarity, foreignness. Through the personal experience of diaspora and relocation, I realized the homelands I lost and found, that I feel and call home, the places, the people, the languages, the habits mean to me, how much they defined me, shaped me and how much I carry them within me and make me in some way a citizen of the world. Through these experiences, the desire was born to question and share the meaning of Home as a place that encapsulates this concept of belonging.

Often, forced displacement leaves a wound that never heals and remains an integral part of one’s identity.
