Encounters

Asomates Dynameis welcome you to the first thematic festival of performing arts Encounters | Συναντήσεις΄23 which opens tonight with the support of the Deputy Ministry of Culture / Department of Contemporary Art and Culture and the Dance House Lefkosia.
Our vision is to create a platform for the exchange of ideas, reflections and practical methods on the research, the means of creating a performance and the relationship between art and society.

The meeting of artists from across the spectrum of the performing arts, the opportunity to work together for a period of time through the program of hospitality, workshops and performances offered by the festival, we hope will be a fruitful addition to the landscape of the performing arts in Cyprus and will cultivate new reflections.

This year the first meeting has as its theme femininity, its timeless role, stereotypes and the position of women within the context, visible and invisible, of patriarchy.

The three performers, through speech, movement, music, video art, articulate a common feminine discourse for their personal and collective experiences, connecting past and present, archetypes, codes, symbols, anecdotes and contemporary popular songs.

“It is a long way for women to master their own language. And in the place of women we can put colour, social class, sexual orientation, race, nationality. Because patriarchy has not stopped metastasizing and will not stop as long as the processes of signification and conceptualization are organized around the axis of patriarchal power” – Maria Fragiadaki, psychoanalyst.
